Beginning on November 5th, Sagas and Sums is a unique online interactive learning experience enabling children to understand where the Vikings came from, where they travelled to and the areas that they settled in. It includes an exciting online archaeological dig where children will unearth finds from a 'Mysterious Mound' that was excavated on the Isle of Man just after the Second World War. Children will be able to take soil samples and find Viking artefacts online. Participants will be able to communicate online with two archaeologists from the world famous Jorvik Centre in York through a secure communications area where they will be able to pose questions of the experts and to upload their own work. Schools will be encouraged to upload their conclusions from the dig either as creative writing about what they think may have happened to the occupants of the mound, or as a piece of scientific analysis. Extensive teachers notes and worksheets will be made available to all registered schools.
