ICT Framework Solutions is a suite of resources designed to support the ICT national teaching strategy. To complement the student workbooks, Nelson Thornes required a CD-ROM as an electronic activity-based resource for each secondary year group.
The solution DDL created a product which mirrored the format, style and teaching methods of the workbook - with the additional benefits of being viewed on screen, interacting directly the student.
The software takes the student through a self assessment worksheet at the beginning of each section to discover their ability levels. The activities which follow are tailored to match those skills sets, focusing on areas where additional guidance is required.
From a pop-up window, the student follows clear step by step instructions whilst working through a task on screen. When additional help is required, animated 'Show me' files guide them through the task with optional audio demonstrations and 'Skillbuilder' files.
Each section includes a quiz to test the knowledge and ability level of the student once again. To ensure the task is stimulating and engaging, the quiz takes on a computer game format with ‘lives’ lost when a question is answered incorrectly. The quiz is timed so the student completes it ‘against the clock’ adding a fun and competitive element.
The provision of ready-made assessment materials and assignment delivery means assessing ICT capabilities and progress is less time consuming and allows students to learn at their own pace.
Prior to its launch, ICT Framework Solutions became the biggest ever pre-ordered product from Nelson Thornes.
